Donald Ray Sechrest (February 16, 1933 – January 20, 2006) was a renowned architect of more than 90 golf courses in the United States and Mexico.
Sechrest was born in St. Joseph. He attended Christian Brothers High School. He graduated in 1956 from Oklahoma State University, where he played on the varsity golf team. After graduation, he played on the PGA Tour.
This was written about in one of the award-winning 18-hole championship courses that he designed, named Terradyn Golf Course in Andover, Kansas. “His mission was clear, to design a suitable memorable challenge for the top players in the world. Designed to preserve the traditions and integrity of the game. From the moment you step onto the first tee, you knew you were in for a treat”. Terradyn offers one of the best representations of Scottish golf in the United States and was rated 4.0 stars by Golf Digest magazine in 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009. It was also chosen by Golf Week magazine as one of America’s best courses.
