Juliette Owen

Juliette Amelia Owen (1858 – October 26, 1943) was the youngest of the Owen sisters, who were all born in St. Joseph and lived their entire lives in the home their parents built in 1859. All of the sisters were noted for the work they did in their fields of interest. Her sisters were Mary Alicia Owen and Luella Agnes Owen.

Juliette was known for her knowledge of birds and flowers, and for her delicate watercolors. She wrote countless articles on ornithology and produced sketches and watercolors of the species she studied. She was a lifetime member of the Missouri Audubon Society, an ardent conservationist and animal advocate. In 1914, she was a founding member of the Humane Society of St. Joseph and Buchanan County.

Juliette wrote two scientific books about ornithology and botany in Missouri but the books have never been located.
