Kay Noble

Mary Charlene Noble (October 15, 1940 – April 27, 2006) was known from childhood by her nickname Kay. Born in St. Joseph, she was an American  professional wrestler. Her career spanned from the 1950’s to the 1980’s. She worked along with many well known female professional wrestlers and in mixed tag team matches which included her husband, Doug Gilbert. During her almost thirty years of wrestling, she held the Texas Woman’s Championship, Central States Woman’s Championship, and for eight years the AWA World Woman’s Championship title. In 1971 she was the Woman Wrestler of the Year. In 2001, the Cauliflower Alley Club, a society of retired professional wrestlers honored her contributions to women’s wrestling.  She is honored in the Professional Wrestlers Hall of Fame and the Wrestling Fans International Association.

Noble knew she wanted to become a professional wrestler at age 15 but did not began her professional career until age 18, after being approached by a promoter in St. Joseph. She was trained by Laura Martinez and Sonny Myers and throughout her career she was known for her toughness and strength. She was also a high-flying wrestler which at the time was unusual for women wrestlers. It was said that she took to the air to take down her foes!
